Is Promptchan AI Worth It? A Firsthand Review of Promptchan AI Pricing and Features

Promptchan AI is built primarily around AI image generation, with a strong focus on NSFW content rather than a virtual girlfriend. However, the platform has since added a chat feature, prompting me to test it so you don’t have to. 

When I first signed up, the platform dropped me straight into a community feed. Here, you will find millions of AI-generated images and looping videos loaded immediately, with no guided onboarding in sight. I felt that navigating that volume without context is genuinely disorienting at first, especially for first-time users. 

Note: Promptchan AI only accepts personal email to sign up, but the platform does not display any of your info in your profile. Upon sign-up, you receive a sign-in link to get in. 

In addition to the easy signup, Promptchan AI impressed me with the ‘Daily Tasks’ that included following their Reddit and Discord channels, which gives you 30 free gems on the free tier. 

Promptchan AI Pricing Overview

Like many other AI companions, Promptchan AI offers subscription plans powered by Gem coins. This is the only way these companies can maximize their profits while delivering quality output for users. The platform offers three subscription models:

• Plus starting at $11.99/month with 100 Gems
• Premium starting at $18.99/month with 400 Gems
• Pro starting at $26.99/month with unlimited casual generations and 800 Gems. (Suitable for creators)

When looking at Promptchan AI pricing, you’ll notice that only the Pro plan allows you to create custom characters. This was a turn-off for me, especially because there are other platforms with the custom character feature at a lower price point. 

And for this reason, I would recommend Promptchan AI to visual users more than to chat and emotional support users. 

When reviewing any platform, I like to document the experience, not just the features. This Promptchan AI review should help you decide whether this platform is right for you or if you should consider other alternatives. 
Here’s my firsthand experience with Promptchan AI:

Promptchan AI Dashboard overview 

Once you sign up, Promptchan takes you to the Explore page, where you will find millions of images and looping videos. It is imperative to understand that this platform is purely NSFW from the start. 

The medial scroll is fun and lets you see what you can create with Promptchan. You have access to the custom settings that the creators used to generate the media, which helps if you are new to this. 

However, the endless scroll can be overwhelming with so many images and videos presented on your screen simultaneously. 

You can then choose your next action from the navigation menu on the top right. The ‘Create’ button takes you to an AI media generator, and the ‘Chat’ button allows you to either choose a character to chat with from the library or create one. We will look at the process of creating a character with Promptchan AI.

Character Diversity and Customization

Promptchan AI offers one of the weakest character diversities, unless you are on the Pro plan. To access character creation, you must go to the ‘Chat’ button, which presents you with two options: discover profiles or create a character. 

I went on to create a character to test for customization and overall experience. This took me to a new window with only about five choices for appearance. It is the shallowest face appearance customization feature I have ever tested so far. I felt that the only thing that mattered was ethnicity, with little to no customization.

The next window allows more customization, where you can give your Promptchan character a name, age, and select sexuality between straight, gay, or lesbian. Only Pro users can access the custom settings under sexuality. 

I noticed that you can also give your character a voice, although there is no way to test the selected option at this stage. I hope they get to improve this. What’s the point of giving me options if I can only choose a name? However, you can always change your choice later.

Promptchan also allows you to set your character’s emotions, even though it’s shallow. Your character can be balanced, troubled, or joyful. The emotion selected will affect your character’s mood and photos. 

You can also customize your character’s openness between modest, adventurous, or balanced.  This affects how she will respond to your messages and actions. 

The last part of creating your Promptchan character is to enter a scenario, which influences the context of your conversations in your roleplay mode. Additionally, you also have a section to enter the first message. You can always leave it empty if you want to send the message. 

To be honest, I am not sure if I loved the simple and free character creation or found it way too limiting compared to other platforms. However, it is worth noting that Promptchan is more focused on media generation than AI chat. 

From here, you can create your character and proceed to chat without spending a gem. It is also a plus that you can always edit your character long after generating her.

Promptchan AI Review 2026 Chat Experience: Conversation Quality

You can either choose to chat with the prebuilt characters or create one. I went with the latter as I wanted to document my first-hand experience with Promptchan AI. On the dashboard, you find more chat settings on the left with the details of your character entered earlier. You can use this opportunity to edit your roleplay scenario or the first greetings. 

Additionally, you can also switch between chat texting style and roleplay storytelling. Let’s first look at the chat style. 

My character is a student whose grades are falling behind in class. She needs help with extra classes – This is the context from which I tested Promptchat AI chat and roleplay feature. 

With this setup, I went ahead to test Promptchan AI conversation quality, and I must say it is adaptive and stayed in context the entire time. I preferred sending the first message to give me a bit of control over the conversation. 

I loved that it didn’t jump right into an NSFW conversation and enjoyed some story building. It is exciting, responds accordingly, and I would say it was pleasurable. 

However, I did not appreciate that Promptchan AI does not allow you to change chat to roleplay without erasing your existing conversation with your character.

So, I switched to story mode, just to satisfy my curiosity, and also to tell you what to expect. The only difference between the Chat and Story modes is that the latter is more descriptive of the scenario. I figured that this gives you more control, as you can always add more details in an asterisk. For instance 

I would say the roleplay feature works much better in the story mode, and it is easier to transition your conversation to NSFW real quick. 

Additionally, you can interact with your character using voice notes instead. This is where you can finally get to hear your character’s voice and change it to your preference.

Users in paid plans can also generate images from the scene to make your experience even more immersive, a feature I think every AI chat platform should have. 

Another feature I loved on Promptchan is the call feature. You can actually have a conversation with your character. This was quite a highlight for me. 

Promptchan AI Image and Video generator

Promptchan AI is primarily an NSFW AI image and video generator, and this is where I expected the platform to genuinely shine. I was curious to see how far custom prompts could push the output quality. So let’s look at what the customization actually offers.

Promptchan AI allows you to write a custom prompt describing exactly what you want to generate. If you are new to prompting, you can observe or clone settings directly from the community library. Additionally, the platform supports negative prompts, which guide the AI on what to actively avoid in your output.

I will give Promptchan credit where it is due. The platform has clearly invested heavily in its image and video generation toolset. You can select style, pose, filters, and emotions, with most options offering presets that are genuinely useful for maintaining consistency across generations.

Furthermore, you can set specific physical attributes, including age, body proportions, and weight, before generating. However, complex generations with multiple custom settings can drive your gem costs up quickly, which is worth factoring into your budget.

It is also worth being clear about something. Promptchan is heavily NSFW, particularly on the media generation side. Consequently, this is not a platform you stumble into casually.

Promptchan AI NSFW Video Generation

Promptchan AI NSFW video generation is where the platform gets genuinely creative. You can either select a base image and animate it, or build a custom video entirely from a prompt. On the other hand, this feature is locked behind the Pro plan, which limits access for most users on lower tiers.

Additionally, completing daily tasks such as following Promptchan’s Reddit and Discord channels earns you 30 extra free gems. That is a reasonable starting point for beginners who want to test the waters.

However, the gem system can work against you quickly. Complex generations cost more gems per output, and you will burn through your allocation faster than you expect. Consequently, the Plus plan at $11.99 feels underpowered for anyone serious about regular image generation.

This is where the pricing structure shows its real weakness. Custom character creation is locked behind the Pro plan at $26.99/month. Other platforms offer that feature at a considerably lower price point. For users who want full creative control, you are effectively pushed toward the highest tier from the start.

The Premium plan does offer image resolution up to 4K, with generation speeds three times faster than the Plus plan. Furthermore, the Pro plan delivers generation speeds four times faster and supports up to 1,500 images per month. For dedicated content creators, that throughput justifies the cost. For casual users, it almost certainly does not.

On the other hand, you can also purchase standalone gem packs starting from $0.99 for 50 images, which gives you some flexibility without committing to a full subscription upgrade.

Is Promptchan AI Worth It?

The honest answer depends entirely on what you are coming here to do. Promptchan AI is worth it if image and video generation is your primary goal. It is not worth it if you are looking for a well-rounded AI companion experience.

The image generation toolset is genuinely impressive. Custom prompts, negative prompts, style presets, pose selection, and physical attribute controls give you meaningful creative range. Additionally, the community library gives beginners a real shortcut to understanding what effective prompting looks like in practice.

However, the pricing structure creates a frustrating ceiling. Custom character creation sits behind the Pro plan at $26.99/month, which is a significant ask when competing platforms offer that feature at lower price points. Consequently, beginners on the free tier or Plus plan will hit limitations before they fully explore what the platform can do.

The chat feature exists, but I would not factor it into your purchase decision. It stayed in context during my testing and handled roleplay reasonably well in story mode. On the other hand, switching between chat and roleplay modes erases your existing conversation, which is a poor design choice that undercuts the experience.

Promptchan AI NSFW video generation is promising, but it remains a Pro-only feature. For content creators running high output volumes, the Pro plan makes sense. For everyone else, the cost-to-value ratio is harder to justify.

By contrast, users who simply want to explore AI-generated NSFW imagery without heavy investment will find the daily free gems and community feeds a reasonable starting point.

I would recommend Promptchan AI to visual creators first. Everyone else should weigh the alternatives carefully before committing.
